Into the heart of Music

They went down in one’s and two’s but not pairs; only on their own.

They went down to the front looking for something but we only watched, seated, in our fold down chairs. Tapping their toes, shaking their shoulders, and swaying their hips we were only mildly entertained. They returned to us one at a time [...]

Crashed

DISCLAIMER: Reading this piece might make you sad and I don’t want that to happen to you.
The wave came crashing down yesterday. I could almost tell you why. I’m sorry, you probably want to know what I’m talking about. I was sad yesterday.
Off the top of my head I could think of a few reasons:

Uncle [...]

Shhhhh…

Please, you have to really be quiet. I’m watching baby Tyler sleep right now. Everyone else went to a relative’s house nearby. I didn’t go because I have some stuff I need to read for work so I’m the only one home. We’re in the master bedroom. It’s just you, me, and Tyler. I’m sitting [...]

Unexpected

I was watching my cousin Sammy last night. We were… well… she was trying to build a nest. She picked up two sticks.

They’re talking about bringing out the sweaters and hats and boots. The word “October” is starting to find its way into conversations now.
It’s been a good [...]

My work

I went on rounds today unexpectedly. I’m a research RN for the transplant department at a gi-normous Chicago hospital. I chose research because after a lot of time in incredibly stressful work environments (i.e., operating room) I found this situation had a more pleasing pace.
I’ve been spending a lot of time holed up in my [...]

August Harvest

My parents have a pear tree in their back yard and the pears are ripe. We have lots and lots of pears and maybe we gave you some from our tree.

My parents are inviting friends to come over for their share and… I don’t know why but I always like seeing elders come together. It’s [...]
